SPECTO Composite Awareness Training
At the beginning of October 2024, SPECTO Aerospace provided a customer-oriented Composite Awareness Training for employees of Regional Jet Center and KLM Cityhopper.
For years, SPECTO has been supporting both companies with Composite Repair Services for the KLM Cityhopper Embraer E-series fleet: Radomes, Flight Control Surfaces, Structure- & Nacelle Components, both shop repairs and onsite by the SPECTO Field Repair Team.
In order to recognize damage to these components even earlier and even better, and to gain an even better insight into the possibilities that SPECTO offers both companies, the question arose whether SPECTO could train a selected number of employees. And of course, our answer was positive. After all, sharing information is part of a high-quality collaboration that all companies strive for.
Prior to the training, Regional Jet Center and KLM Cityhopper identified the following goals:
- Improving Insight into Composite Repair Capabilities
- Damage Assessment – how should it be done and how is it recorded in a Damage Assessment Report?
- Which inspection techniques are used for this?
- What repair methods are available?
- How specifically is an Embraer Radome measured and then tested in accordance with MOPS-Minimum Operational Standards or RTCA-DO213 using ARThuR?
- What materials are used during the repair process?

With these goals in mind, SPECTO developed the training, in which, in addition to theory, a practical part was also planned:
- Skills development and gaining experience
- Repairs on solid/sandwich with wet lay-up
- Repairs on sandwich with pre-preg
- Tap test
All in all, a very successful training, in which all participants ended the days with a lot of new knowledge.
