SPECTO – painting SPACE Craft structures
SPECTO’s painting team has entered an era of painting even bigger components. Composite Repairs to aero structures being SPECTO’s core business, the SPECTO painting Team is still a class on its own. Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands, which is responsible for the development and production of engine frames of the Ariane 6 launcher and the Interstage 1/2 of the Vega launcher, already selected SPECTO for the surface treatment of the heat shields and application of anti-static coatings for the structural part of Vega and now also VEGA C, Vega’s bigger sister, and Ariane 6 Vulcain Aft Bay (VUAB). Two more prestigious projects for which we like to demonstrate our skills!
Vega already was Europe’s cost-effective commercial launcher vehicle for payloads up to 1,500 kg, Vega C increases this payload weight to up to 2,200 kg payload, helping to make space even better accessible for smaller satellites from Europe. The launcher is 35 meters high with a diameter of 3.3 meter.
A series of Vega C Interstage 1/2 structure were painted at SPECTO previously. It only just fitted into SPECTO’s paint booth and could be treated successfully in the controlled environment.
Almost simultaneously the first Ariane 6 Vulcain Aft Bay (VUAB) was being prepared for application of the required coating and anti-static layer. This voluminous segment was successfully completed as the first unit being painted in ADSN’s brand new state-of-the-art paint facility in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands by SPECTO’s paint team.
Congratulations to both teams for reaching this milestone!
